How can I record my story?

At the current time, the only way in which to participate in Share Your Story is to schedule an interview at a Montana library that is hosting the project.  Please see our “Where” page to find the libraries that are currently hosting the project and where the Share Your Story project will travel next.

Can I record more than one interview?

That will depend on your local library’s schedule.  The goal of the Share Your Story project is to collect as many Montanans’ stories as possible.

Does it cost anything to participate?

No.  As with most library services, participation is free.

How do I make a reservation?

Make your reservation for a Share Your Story recording session by contacting your local library.  If your local library is not hosting the Share Your Story project, you can check our “Where” page to see which libraries are hosting.  Montanans may record their stories at any Montana library that is hosting the project.  Please work with hosting libraries to make a reservation to record an interview.

That will depend on the hosting library.

How do I change or cancel my reservation time?

Please contact your local library (or the library at which you scheduled) that scheduled the interview.  Your library may not be able to accommodate rescheduling cancelled reservations.

What Can I Expect During the Interview?

What should I bring?  What should I do to prepare?

Learn about what to expect during your interview here(INSERT HYPERLINK). Bring a list of questions with you. You may also want to bring a bottle of water.

How early should I arrive?

Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled interview.

Can I come alone?

Share Your Story interviews are designed to record conversations between people who are part of one another’s lives, so we do ask that you bring a partner. If you do not have a partner, come with an idea of what you’d like to talk about.  A Share Your Story Facilitator will be on-site to help you share your story and ask questions.

How many people can I bring to my interview?

A two-person interview is ideal: you and your interview partner. Interviews between two people tend to work best.

Can I read something during my recording?

Share Your Story interviews are intended to be unscripted conversations. However, you are welcome to bring something short to read to incorporate into your conversation.

Can I bring my child/grandchild with me?

We suggest you do not bring children younger than ten to your interview.
